Lauren Daigle’s song, You Say, broke a record and topped the Billboard Christian “hot song” charts for over 100 weeks. Perhaps there’s a reason for that–one that moves beyond Lauren’s incredible musical talent. So if you haven’t heard her song, I encourage you to listen to her video. Does God really think you are beautiful?
As you listen to the words of her song, can you identify? Because who hasn’t felt weak, imperfect, or unacceptable at one time or another? Who hasn’t listened to the wrong voices and adopted their lies as truth? Who hasn’t believed what others might say of us–or what we might think of ourselves instead of believing God? When you hear Lauren’s song, maybe the words will echo the cries of your heart too.
God Says You Are Beautiful
It’s easy to form the wrong opinion of ourselves when we don’t believe God’s truth, but His voice is the one that rings true every time. Listen and believe what He says about you; then remember that you are not your past. You are not the sum total of your mistakes or failures. And you can rise above the influence of a dysfunctional family or culture that has gone awry. In Christ, you are victorious, and you can choose to believe who God says you are. You are of great worth and value, and you are indeed beautiful to Him. I pray the words below will also encourage you to believe what God says about you.
God Says You Are Beautiful
By
Rebecca Barlow Jordan
You…
with “loser” tattooed on your soul,
broken and lonely, longing to be whole.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
hiding in corners of confusion and pain,
tired of the storms, drenched by the rain.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
with regrets attached to your name,
so tired of attempts at playing the game.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
working hard to remove what you can’t,
running a race you don’t understand.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
scarred and battered and empty inside,
searching for hope, or a new place to hide.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
who are perfect and don’t really know it,
loved by the One who’s ready to show it.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
who’ve been chosen to share in His beauty,
Forgiven and saved by grace, not by duty.
God says you are beautiful.
You…
are His treasure, so precious to God,
a new creature in Christ, by His death you were bought.
God says you are beautiful.
Yes,
You.
Along the same vein, you may have seen Idol winner Candace Glover sing the song, “I Am Beautiful,” years ago on the Season 12, 2013 Idol contest. If not, you can listen to it here. I hope her song will minister to your spirit.
Here’s what God’s Word says about you:
Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you.
I’ve called your name. You’re mine.
When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down.
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
it won’t be a dead end—
Because I am God, your personal God,
The Holy of Israel, your Savior.
I paid a huge price for you (Isaiah 43:1-3 MSG).
You are precious to me.
You are honored, and I love you (Isaiah 43:4, NLT).
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day. Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful! God, I’ll never comprehend them! I couldn’t even begin to count them—any more than I could count the sand of the sea (Psalm 139:13-19 MSG).
My Personal Prayer for You
Lord, thank You for loving us just as we are. Thank You for redeeming, us, adopting us, renewing us, and letting us know how valuable and precious we are to You. Help us refute the lies we hear daily, the whispers that tell us we are not enough, that we are not acceptable, and that we never will be. You speak truth to us when no one else will, and You alone fill us with joy, purpose, and beauty. You are awesome, God!
Day-votedly Yours,
Rebecca
