It’s time for another book giveaway. I enjoy encouraging others, and I hope this new book will encourage you. You’ll enjoy a year’s full of devotions that will strengthen you in your walk with Jesus.
God Blesses Us Daily
All of us need to set aside time to meet with God–to refresh our spirits, strengthen our relationship, and nourish our souls. All of us need encouragement. In the new Mornings with Jesus 2014 devotional, I joined nine other gifted writers again to share 365 fresh devotional insights from God’s Word that focus on the character and teachings of Jesus. Enjoy this example of how God blesses us–all through the year.
Below you’ll find one of the sample devotions I wrote in the Mornings with Jesus 2014 devotional. Read it and see how God blesses every believer with two special companions.
Two Faithful Companions
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6 NKJV
We have always been a “dog” family. Ever since I can remember, even as a child, a fur-legged, tail wagging creature would greet us each morning with affection. Almost without exception through the years, our differing breeds had one thing in common. They loved to “get away.” And for the most part, that love of adventure got them in lots of trouble.
Except for Brandy. We adopted this temperamental cocker spaniel from our daughter who was in college at the time. Brandy became my dog. Wherever I went, Brandy followed me. When I would write at the computer, she slept near my feet. When I cooked, she would sit or lay with her head propped on the kitchen windowsill, following every movement outside. She rarely left my side.
Brandy died several years ago, and I’ve never replaced her. Even in her testy moments, Brandy remained my favorite dog. I still miss her.
Jesus reminded me recently that a couple of constant “companions” follow me day after day. They sleep by my bed. They watch while I eat or work. They travel with me faithfully, no matter where I go or what I do.
The truth is, all of God’s children know these two companions: goodness and mercy. “All the days of my life” means every day, every night, until I draw my last breath. Jesus’ goodness, immeasurable and unfailing, and His mercy, extravagant and undeserving, is better than any four-legged canine’s companionship.
Even our closest human relationships can’t offer the same soul-satisfying joy as Jesus’ own presence—and those faithful godly companions: goodness and mercy.
Faith Step: Thank Jesus for your loyal companions, goodness and mercy. Take time today to remember the experiences when those two have consciously made a difference in your life.
